RECRUIT – No Gym (8-Week Basic Training Prep)
Review the program, equipment, and experience guidance before you start.
Program intention
Arrive at basic training able to exceed minimum AFT standards with margin, handle daily high-volume calisthenics and running, and stay injury-free so the recruit finishes near the top of the class.
About this program
8-week progressive bodyweight and minimal-equipment program designed to take an average out-of-shape civilian and prepare them to crush U.S. military basic training (Army AFT focus with carry-over to other branches). No commercial gym required. Uses bodyweight, a backpack for rucking/loaded carries, a pull-up bar (doorway, park, or tree), and optional resistance bands. Emphasizes running durability, hand-release push-up endurance, plank, pulling strength, and loaded walking while prioritizing injury prevention. **** NOT A SPECIAL FORCES OR RANGER PREP **** Designed to be repeatable.
Suggested fitness level
beginner
True beginner friendly. Start every session with 5–10 min easy walk + dynamic warm-up (leg swings, arm circles, bodyweight squats). Progress running carefully - no more than ~10% volume increase per week. Keep easy days conversational. Use push-up and pull-up progressions (knee, elevated, negative, band-assisted). If shin or foot pain appears, replace impact with brisk walking or stairs and reduce volume. Sleep and gradual progression are critical. Program is repeatable; after 8 weeks reassess and restart with higher volume or harder variations.
